With on the one hand the Ecole de Fontainebleau’s Lady at her bath, and on the other Tintoretto’s Susanna at her bath, Gaëlle Bourges invents an amusing new way to penetrate into the secrets behind these two paintings by the masters. Mixing theatre, dramatic objects, music and narration, Le Bain is a fable nourished by digression to tell the thousand and one tales that tie these famous masterpieces. Among them, we have Acteon being turned into a stag after surprising the goddess Diana at her bath, and that of Susanna saved by the prophet Daniel from the vengeance of two elders. Through personal anecdotes, incisive analyses, associations of ideas and images, and the adventures of dolls and toiletries that three dancer-singers bring to life, we are treated to a unique history of the bath and the body in art and life.
