Fatoumata Diawara & Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne
The Malian diva Fatoumata Diawara and her musicians offer the Opéra de Dijon an exceptional concert bringing together the talents of the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne and the sounds of the yakandi and traditional Mandinkan rhythms.
Surrounded by her musicians and accompanied by the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, the singer Fatoumata Diawara will primarily perform pieces from her album Maliba. As an international ambassador of Malian culture, Fatoumata Diawara uses her music to establish dialogue between cultures and to advocate for peace, but also for the recognition of Africa’s cultural contributions to the world, notably through the preservation of manuscripts in the city of Timbuktu, currently under threat from Jihadi insurrectionists. Maliba is all that and more: a testimonial through which the singer evokes the richness of West African traditions, and an homage to the culture and struggles of an entire people.
