The Little Shop of Horrors
Ages 10 and up
Fans of musical comedies are invited to discover the horrific story of Seymour Krelborn and a plant dear to his heart named Audrey II. Let yourself be carried away by the zany zest of Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq, returning to the Opéra de Dijon after their remarkable Petite Balade aux enfers !
A film shot in just two days, The Little Shop of Horrors tells the edifying tale of Seymour, an employee at a small neighbourhood florist shop who is hopelessly enthralled by the beautiful Audrey, and who will see his life turned upside down after the discovery of a carnivorous plant with an insatiable appetite ... Released in 1960, Roger Corman’s movie already contained a lot of the comic accents that punctuate the rock musical comedy it inspired. Everything, in sum, to seduce Valérie Lesort and Christian Hecq, lovers of infernal Grand Guignol, into improbable actor-puppet hybrids and other half-horrific, half-hilarious special effects. Premiered off-off Broadway in May 1982, The Little Shop of Horrors was awarded numerous prizes and ran for five years before being brought to the big screen by Frank Oz in 1986. For this recreation of a dark-humour classic (with green highlights), Lesort and Hecq launch a new French version, with Maxime Pascal at the podium.
