La Traviata
Three years after the success of Don Pasquale, Amelie Niermeyer and Melody Louledjian return to the Opéra de Dijon to cast new light on the most famous and moving missed rendezvous of the repertoire.
In 1852, the tragedy of La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas (son) so deeply moved Verdi that he decided on the spot to compose his opera. It tells the story of the forbidden love between a courtesan and her lover who, like two acrobats on opposites sides of a wire, desperately try to meet throughout the opera. But Violetta and Alfredo should not love each other. In Amelie Niermeyer’s vision, they meet in an abandoned hangar at an underground party, where souls cross paths and, sometimes, recognize one another. In the Parisian salons or in the midst of a rave, the profound drama of La Traviata remains immutable and exalted.
