film-concert Microcosmos
Ages 7 and up
A cult classic of wildlife cinema, Microcosmos is being screened on the main stage of the Dijon Opera House, accompanied by the original soundtrack performed live. It offers an up-close and personal look at the tiny creatures that inhabit our natural environment.
Released in 1996, Microcosmos continues to captivate audiences of all ages with its breathtaking scenes of insects and animals: filmed with a 35mm camera with impressive precision, the documentary follows these creatures in their daily lives over the course of an entire day. We move among gigantic blades of grass, witness the birth of a mosquito, observe two snails meeting, and watch caterpillars feed. The whole experience is accompanied by the poetic music of Bruno Coulais, performed live by the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, singer Marie Cubaynes, and conductor Liochka Massabie. These teeming images, seen from an insect’s-eye view, continue to provide a sense of wonder to us all.
