Ensemble SuperNova

The ensemble SuperNova, founded in 2020 in Saône-et-Loire, is representative of a new generation of artists involved in the renewal of contemporary music: an ensemble without conductor, it feeds off the energy and creativity of each member of the collective. SuperNova juxtaposes freedom of improvisation and the detailed inner workings of contemporary composition.

For this reason the group commissioned Karl Naegelen for their second creation: in the process of writing, the composer takes the material offered by the musicians, their modes of playing, their collective sonic fabric, their musical interactions. Karl Naegele invents an acoustic sonic synthesis, rich in timbres, with virtuoso rhythms, but always clear and comprehensible to the audience. The magic of sound breathes through the acoustic spaces and lodges within the crux of our ear drums.

From 3 to 11 February 2024, the Souffle festival will be presenting concerts, encounters and unprecedented encounters, offering listening experiences we can enjoy together, with music and sounds that play with our perceptions, sensations and emotions. From acoustic music to electronic and digital technologies, from hybrid creations to writing, improvisation, performance and the visual arts, Souffle is a breath of fresh air in the flow of our sonic habits.

Souffle is a biennial festival organised with the Opéra and La Vapeur: after a first co-edition in 2022, it’s the ici l’onde music creation centre that’s coordinating this major event dedicated to sound creation in all its forms.

Souffle will be held in the new Triangle room at the Auditorium de l’Opéra, at La Vapeur, at the Consortium Museum, at Ateliers Vortex, at Un Singe en Hiver, at La Menuiserie and in the public space.

Souffle because sound is a wave: air that becomes language and music when it vibrates in our eardrums.
