Hänsel & Gretel

Humperdinck
presentation

from age 8

Inspired by the famous fairy tale by the brothers Grimm, with illustrations created live by Lorenzo Mattotti, this show gives the story unexpected depth: behind the happy resolution in which the two children prevail, this staged version by Dominique Pitoiset gives the work a troubling yet captivating beauty.

In this show for the whole family, inventive drawing, music and  narration come together, live and with brio.
Far from the fairy tale’s original aesthetic, Lorenzo Mattotti here traces in black ink a gallery of powerfully hypnotic and beautiful mental images to punctuate the narration, delivered by the actress Nadia Fabrizio. In this dialogue in black and white, between the silences and the picturesque music of Engelbert Humperdinck, performed here on piano four hands by the prodigies Nour Ayadi and Pierre-Marie Gasnier, Hänsel & Gretel finds new expressionist power that raises this tale to the greatness of a myth about childhood and hope.
