ENSEMBLE & ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Amore Siciliano is one of those special programmes for which Leonardo García Alarcón knows the secret, mixing folk and classical traditions from the cultural territories of southern Italy, in a highly original dramatic form. The point of depart ure ? La Canzone di Cecilia, a popular Calabrian melody around which the conductor and his ensemble have imagined a mini-opera with five characters. The story ? A tragic episode in the life of Cecilia, a young woman separated from her beloved Giuseppe, who is imprisoned. To set this drama of passion and blackmail to music, Leonardo García Alarcón has selected cantatas and madrigals from 17th century Neapolitan and Sicilian composers such as Tozzi, Carapella, Amodei, D’India, Bonfiglio, Trabacci and Scarlatti, as well as anonymous folk songs from the period, for an original and captivating musical experience.
