LE SALON DES DISSONANCES

ENSEMBLE IN RESIDENCE

This "salon" formula with Les Dissonances brings together the various musicians of the ensemble in programmes of chamber music that mirror the lyric works of the season. Enesco’s Decet for winds ( 1907 ) is a score of extraordinary charm, a peaceful and bucolic evocation of the Romanian countryside, with great melodic generosity and constant renewal in the writing.  A Viennese modernist, like his brother-in-law Zemlinsky, Schoenberg followed a more radical musical path. His Quintet op. 26 ( 1924 ) is his first score of stature to employ the12-tone method of composition that he had then recently developed. The pastoral yet lively nature of Zemlinsky’s brief Jagdstück ( hunting piece ) in reality masks the most tragic period of his life. Exiled to New York the previous year ( 1938) , the composer signs here one of his very last scores, before illness and ultimate silence.
