ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Andreas Staier, with the complicity of Amandine Beyer and her ensemble Gli Incogniti, has chosen for the last concert of his season at Dijon to honour a composer to which he has always expressed deep musical affection. Haydn, often considered the musician’s composer because of the many subtle nods to connoisseurs sprinkled throughout his scores, has nonetheless written music of extraordinary sensitivity that touches as much the hearts as the minds of all who hear it. As proof of this, the Concerto in D major of 1780 has nothing to envy from the most moving Mozartian masterpieces of the genre. Who indeed could resist the remarkable synthesis of diverse elements offered in the first movement ? Or the sensual lyrical emotion of the Poco adagio ? Or the engaging spin of the Rondo all’Ungaherese ? And how to avoid surrendering heart and soul to the radiant luminosity of the Symphony n°47 of 1772, with its interplay of contrasting tones and sonorities ?
