MOZART

ASSOCIATE ARTISTS & ENSEMBLE

Composed in a short span of time, between April and December 1775, by a young man of only 19, Mozart’s violin concertos are among the foundational pillars of the repertoire.

Written primarily for his own professional needs, as music master for the Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, they are a manifestation of the French tastes that then reigned in the Germanic courts : precise expression, clear and delicate grace, vivacious yet elegant sentimentality.

However, while the first two, notably the Concerto K. 207, constitute a peak of gallant inspiration for Mozart, the following works break the framework to give way to bursts of Sturm und Drang, those tempests and passions that hail the arrival of Romanticism, leading up to the Concerto K. 219, which borrows the typical rhythms of Hungarian czarda in a dark and fierce explosion of revolt.
