Leonardo García Alarcón & Cappella Mediterranea

Week-end d'ouverture
in a few words

From Castille to Calabria, from Mantua to Vienna, from Rome to Paris, Cappella Mediterranea scrolls through the pages of this travel album through European Baroque under the guidance of Leonardo Garcia Alarcon.

Baroque concert: the title of a very musical novel by the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier resonates with expressive generosity and limitless emotional proliferation. From the facades of Borromini to the sculptures of Bernini, from dramatic intensity to exalted faith, the theatrical spirit of the Counter-Reformation had conquered a large part of Europe, revolutionizing musical writing. At the very birth of opera, Monteverdi’s Orfeo coincides with the exotic fantasy of Rameau’s Indes galantes, with the Franco-Flemish complexity in the language of Arcaldet, the gripping chromaticism of Sigismondo d’India, the lyric prodigality of Draghi, the condensed dramaturgy of Ribayaz, the spiritual depth of Giorgi. An exceptional selection from one of the most inventive periods of musical history.

This event takes part to the European Heritage Days.
