Edgar Moreau & David Kadouch
Two essential French musicians of the new generation invite us on a tour through some of the most beautiful pages of Russian music. Under the fingers of Edgar Moreau and David Kadouch, cello and piano become one.
The incandescent lyricism of Rachmaninov’s Melody Op. 21 and Sonata Op. 19, his only sonata for two instruments, echoes the famous Piano Concerto No. 2, composed at the same time. The fourth of Dvořák’s Gypsy Songs, here transcribed for cello and titled “Songs My Mother Taught Me”, imbues this homage to Russian expressiveness with heartrending nostalgia, followed by the bittersweet irony of Shostakovich’s famous Waltz No. 2. The program concludes with Prokofiev’s last chamber masterpiece.
