Invited each year by the Dijon Opera, Renaud Capuçon returns for a vibrant celebration of musical lyricism and the images that inspire him, with two pillars of the repertoire and a bewitching discovery.
Under the violinist’s bow, a forgotten treasure is restored to us: composed in 1922, Charlotte Sohy’s Thème varié envelops the orchestra in subtle symbolist colours, supporting a rich and exhilarating solo part. The late work of a tormented musician, and one of the crowning achievements of Romanticism, Schumann’s Violin Concerto was not performed during the composer’s lifetime. It was not until Yehudi Menuhin recorded the score that it finally became an integral part of the repertoire. The infinite melody of the first two contrasting movements and an irresistible polonaise finale introduce Beethoven’s iconic Pastoral Symphony. Already losing his hearing, the musical genius took refuge in nature and drew inspiration from landscapes that fascinated him, opening the doors to a rich inner world: the magic never ceases to work its wonders.
