Perrault’s Fairy Tales

Ages 8 and up

To chase away the blues, nothing beats a good fairy tale… In a whimsical crossing of destinies, Perrault’s characters take to the lyric stage for an evening of pure magic, guaranteed to reawaken the child within us all.

Valérie Lesort has delighted audiences of all ages at the Dijon Opera with the Petite balade aux enfers, then The Little Shop of Horrors. In Perrault’s Fairy Tales, she juggles between Cinderella and Tom Thumb, Little Red Riding Hood and Bluebeard, Morgana le Fay and Prince Charming. In a libretto by Arthur Bernède and Paul de Choudens, the jumbled destinies of these characters are played out to the music of Felix Fourdrain (1880-1923) and the refined charm of La Belle Époque. For this lyric fairy tale blending delicate poetry and theatrical wonder, Julie Camus’ sets transform into a giant “pop-up” book. As for Les Frivolités Parisiennes, they offer—after The Rabbi’s Cat—yet another example of their playful talents, under the baton of the equally unclassifiable and brilliant Dylan Corlay.
