Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, Ensemble Musicatreize & Dijon Opera Choir - Autodafé, Maurice Ohana
Imagine a concert bringing together an orchestra, three choirs, and five conductors: such is the feat achieved by this staged cantata by Maurice Ohana, Autodafé, a deeply committed work of the choral repertoire.
Maurice Ohana’s Autodafé ventures beyond all established conventions: it brings together dozens of professional and amateur performers who sing of freedom. The work traces defining episodes in international history, centered on the relentless struggle against tyranny: the French Revolution, the First World War, the Albigensian Crusade, and the Spanish Civil War. The Musicatreize ensemble, renowned for its expertise in the composer’s works, invites us to discover this haunting music more than half a century after its creation. Alongside them, the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, the Opera Chorus, and an adult amateur choir complete the performance of this work, poised somewhere between stark realism and biting irony.
