Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne
This programme of French and German Romantic music, featuring Mendelssohn, Berlioz and Haydn, also offers a chance to rediscover the remarkable composer Louise Bertin.
A familiar presence in the Opera pit, the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne returns to the Auditorium stage, under the baton of its principal conductor, Joseph Bastian, and joined by French mezzo-soprano Isabelle Druet. Renowned for her performances of Berlioz’s songs, she will perform Les Nuits d’été, a cycle of six pieces set to exquisite poems by Théophile Gautier.
In a fascinating counterpart, the overture to the opéra-comique Le Loup-garou, set in Burgundy, restores Louise Bertin to the spotlight—a gifted composer and contemporary of Berlioz whose work has been unjustly overlooked. Mendelssohn’s The Hebrides, a vivid and spirited seascape, and Haydn’s “Farewell” Symphony complete the programme, celebrating the very best of Romanticism!
