Soulèvement
With this new work for 12 performers, choreographer Angelin Preljocaj explores the energy that drives great collective movements towards liberation.
Angelin Preljocaj explores the mysterious force that brings diverse and divergent groups of people together when injustice becomes impossible to ignore. In villages and cities alike, this force draws us out of our homes and sweeps through us like a tsunami, fuelled by the energy of despair and the dream of sparking a new beginning.
Driven by a powerful, magnetic sonic score by electronic music composer Irène Drésel, Soulèvement harnesses this raw energy and sends it coursing through the dancers’ bodies like a wave of joy. Together, they form a collective movement reminiscent of a murmuration of starlings, breaking apart only to re-form further on. Beneath it all lies the quiet hope of creating a space where the most powerful expressions of solidarity, sisterhood and brotherhood can emerge, along with a profound sense of freedom.
