"What joy for me to be able to wander among the forests and brush. Among the trees, the grass, the rocks ! No man could love nature as much as I do." This love of nature that Beethoven expresses in his letters also permeates one of his most famous symphonies. But already several years earlier, it infused his piano music, in a more intimate collection of secret delights such as this Sonata op. 28. Always singing, often ingenue, calling upon the rustic rhythms of Ländler or musette, at times anticipating the imitations of the recorder in the Sixth symphony to come, it evokes the reverie of the solitary individual wandering through nature. The Sonata op. 26 also foreshadows another symphony, more heroic and tragic. When listening to its Marcia funebre sulla morte d’un Eroe how can we not recall the second movement of the "Eroica" ?
