PROJECT
A Civic Choir
Artists from the Chorus actively participate in outreach projects organized by the Opéra de Dijon, including:
- Neonatology service at the Dijon Bourgogne University Hospital
- Preschools
- Residential care homes for the elderly
- Activities include discovery workshops, on-site concerts, and welcoming visitors to rehearsals—offering meaningful moments of encounter and knowledge sharing.
In collaboration with the Opéra’s partner companies, the Chorus also performs at events promoting the season.
Directed by Anass Ismat since 2015, the Chœur de l’Opéra de Dijon is an ensemble of permanent lyric artists founded to perform the major works of the repertoire.
It performs in the Auditorium and Grand Théâtre of Dijon, in the context of the Opera season, and also tours throughout the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, France and abroad, notably for coproductions with other opera houses.
It plays an important role in the development of pedagogical actions, as well as projects for audiences located far from the cultural events promoted by the Opera.
Between 2022 and 2024, the Choir has developed a new joint project to promote the choral repertoire with the Cité de la voix, and has organised two new editions of its masterclass for young student choir conductors.
The Director of the Chœur de l’Opéra de Dijon, Anass Ismat, was born in Rabat (Morocco). There, he obtained a first prize for violin and musical training at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance. He also followed singing masterclasses with Caroline Dumas, Glenn Chambers, Henrick Siffert... and then continued his higher studies in France at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Lyon, first in lyric singing class, then in choir conducting class.
In addition to his studies at the CNSMD, he spent time in Germany as part of the ERASMUS European exchange, at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. He obtained his master’s degree in choral conducting in June 2011 and was designated in October as professor of artistic teaching of choral singing at the CRR of Toulon Provence Méditerranée.
Anass has carried out both a teaching activity within the framework of various internships and choral conductor training within different structures, as well as performing as guest conductor in cultural institutions such as the Opéra National de Lorraine, the Opéra de Lille, the Opéra Anger-Nantes, the Orchester National of Lille but also as part of the Berlioz festival, Saint-Céré festival, Primavera festival of the Feniarco association (in Italy), for the FIW (Fédération Internationale Willems) and of his choir the WIC (Willems International Choir)... After that, he was singer in various vocal groups such as the Epsilon Renaissance Ensemble, Les Solistes de Lyon, Le Chœur Britten, the Gilles Binchois ensemble, the Arsys Bourgogne ensemble…
In July 2015, Anass was designated choir director of the Chœur de l’Opéra de Dijon. With this formation, he collaborates alongside renowned conductors, such as Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, Antonello Allemandi, Christophe Rousset, Jean-François Verdier, Adrien Perruchon, Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Stefan Veselka ... He is leading this formation through various musical styles and repertoires such as the Petite Messe solennelle by Rossini, the Stabat Mater by Rossini and by Dvořák, several cantatas and motets by Bach and his Christmas Oratorio, Duruflé’s Requiem, choral works a cappella, Jazz standards, Spirituals and Gospels, Carols... Teaching for various choral conductor courses and training programs, he was appointed to teach the choral conducting class at the École Supérieure de Musique Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in September 2022.
