Le Pas du Monde
ages 8 and up
Observing bodies in motion as one might observe the ever-changing natural world, the acrobats of Collectif XY capture the metamorphoses of living things.
After Möbius, which recreated the mysterious choreography of starlings flying by the hundreds in a precise ballet, the collective now explores our relationship to life and the passage of time. Lifts and flips convey and intertwine two temporalities: that of nature, whose rhythms exceed our perception, and that of human life, with its emotions. What is the time of a mountain, a forest, a river? How can it be imagined, represented within the span of a human life?
Le Pas du Monde forms, transforms, and deforms the human columns of acrobats, who can shift imperceptibly from one posture to another, like the slow erosion of a mountain peak, or project into sudden transformations, as pyramids of bodies tumble like falling stones. A sophisticated staging integrates light, voice, sound, and breath to create dreamlike landscapes.
