Vers les métamorphoses
Ages 8 and up
A key figure in contemporary magic, Étienne Saglio brings his sensitivity, imagination, and inventiveness to Vers les Métamorphoses. A striking visual poem, it reads like an ode to the act itself of becoming.
Why, when we speak of transformation, do we never take the word literally? This question — posed as a challenge — guided Saglio in his new creation. Conceived during a difficult moment in the life of the juggler, magician and performer, it first gave rise to a half-human, half-animal chimera: a brightly coloured cardboard mask with a beak and large ears. The answer was there: to change appearance and escape a body too confined, to become a dog to move faster or a bird to overcome an obstacle. Finally, to allow oneself to be multiple.
True to his art of illusion, Saglio employs both technical and poetic means to bring these metamorphoses to life: invisible machinery, video, props and puppets join in a poignant and mysterious dance.
