Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra
The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, one of Europe’s oldest orchestras, makes its debut in Dijon with a program steeped in Nordic Romanticism. Joining the orchestra, Leif Ove Andsnes returns to the Opera for a landmark work of the piano repertoire.
This concert features iconic works from Brahms and Sibelius, two towering figures of European Romanticism. Leif Ove Andsnes brings out the majesty and profound introspection of Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2. This is followed by Sibelius’ heroic Symphony No. 5, a work brimming with warmth, lyricism and hope for the future. In her work Nuances of Water, contemporary composer Anna Berg, of Norwegian and Vietnamese heritage, creates a dreamlike, spellbinding ritual in homage to the element of water. Under the baton of Dima Slobodeniouk, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra continues to champion a rich repertoire that has earned it international acclaim. An exceptional concert of profound evocative power and historical significance.
