Viktoria Mullova & Alasdair Beatson #1
The year 2027 marks the bicentenary of one of the greatest names in music: Ludwig van Beethoven. To celebrate the occasion, international star Viktoria Mullova comes to Dijon for three concerts. This is the first instalment in a series not to be missed!
Beethoven’s sonatas for violin and piano represent the alpha and omega of any performing duo. Written at the turn of the Classical and Romantic periods, they continue to reveal the brilliance of their creator and his visionary inventiveness. For the opening of this cycle, Viktoria Mullova and her longtime fortepiano partner, Alasdair Beatson, have chosen three of the 10 sonatas, including the Ninth, better known as the “Kreutzer”—arguably the most extraordinary of them all. The two soloists meet as equals in a virtuosic and eloquent dialogue, performing on period instruments to capture as closely as possible the sound Beethoven had in mind. This recital is just the first part of their three-concert Beethoven series in Dijon. The journey continues in April and May. The composer will also be featured this season in a separate series of concerts proposed by the Zaïde Quartet.
